Bowl Description: Small shallow blue and white bowl. Provincial coarse porcelain, 'grove porseleinen' in Dutch. Greyish body burnt ochre on exposed parts not covered with the glaze; shallow footrim; exterior base is glazed except for under the footrim; a ring on the interior base is unglazed; blueish glaze; exterior decorated with underglaze blue and divided into 10 segments, each alternating with the tree of life and a styled character; wheel mark on interior base; remains of sticky label on exterior base with Stern written in Irma Stern's handwriting. South Chinese export ware to the Philippines, to the East Indian Archipelago etc; probably made in the Fukien province.
