Bowl Description: Small, shallow blue and white bowl. Provincial coarse porcelain, 'grove porseleinen' in Dutch. Similar to 495 and 496 - greyish body, burnt ochre on exposed parts not covered by the glaze; shallow footrim; exterior base is glazed except for under the footrim; a ring on the interior base is unglazed; no mark on interior base but 3 underglaze blue rings, 2 surrounding interior base and 1 under the lip; blueish glaze; exterior divided into 10 segments, each alternating with the tree of life and a styled character. South Chinese export ware to the Philippines, to the East Indian Archipelago etc. Probably made in the Fukien province.
