Martaban Description: Large martaban (storage jar); similar to 513; Borneo type; reddish stoneware; no footrim; concave base; 5 dragon head holders for cord on upper part of the shoulder; incised design of 2 dragons persuing 2 flaming pearls. Glaze is a brilliant splashed dark amber colour of the "oil spot" type covering the exterior, except lower section, and lip; base and interior are unglazed. South Chinese exportware to the Philippines, to the East Indian Archipelago, especially Borneo. Made in the Kwantung province.
