Jar Description: Oviform T'ang shape with wide neck and rounded mouthrim; 3 long, single vertical ears attached to neck and top of body; body very slightly tapers to sunken base with small footrim; heavy potted buff-coloured stoneware; two thirds of the exterior and the whole of the interior covered with copper-green slip; heavy emerald-green glaze covers part of the 3 ears and the exterior body and runs down in strips and is crackled; glaze terminates on the line of the slip. Southern Chinese, provincial. Yuan or earlier? Group C - see Dr Eckerts identification notes under Historical notes. Dr Eckert suggests it could be a genuine kiln waster but thinks that it is a modern face, made in great numbers in the Far East for the tourist trade.
