Description: Blue and white bowl; provincial coarse porcelain, 'grove porseleinen' in Dutch; coarse heavily potted body, burnt brownish on parts not covered with the glaze; high footrim; duck egg coloured heavy glaze; exterior base is left unglazed as is a ring on the interior base; indistinct underglaze and raised mark on centre of interior base; decorated in greenish grey cobalt underglaze on the exterior only; design consists of various renderings of the character 'Shou' (long life) and the Buddhist symbol of the wheel (Lun), standing for the universal monarch and law; 2 concentric circles on footrim and 2 beneath design. South-Chinese export ware to the Philippines to the East Indian Archipelago. Probably Fukien province.
