Description: Large martaban, cylindrical shape curving in to moulded mouthrim; heavily potted in coarse red stoneware; no footrim; pontil marks on base; engraved linear design - on the shoulder radiating lines start from the mouth and end at the shoulder; beneath this is a border engraved with horizontal, broken lines. Heavy muddy-green glaze (temmoku type - type of the "Honan temmoku, a felspathic glaze). Martavan is glazed all-over except the flat base. Later example, Han (206 BC-220 AD) but made later.
